United Hospital Fund to Lead Coordination of New York State Health Equity Regional Organization (HERO)

United Hospital Fund will lead coordination of the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH)’s Health Equity Regional Organization (HERO) to bridge public health, social services, and health care delivery for the State’s Medicaid beneficiaries. The HERO is a core initiative under New York’s current 1115 waiver amendment—approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in January 2024—which has a multi-pronged approach to strengthening the integration of social services and health care delivery.

It is a collaborative effort, bringing together health centers, behavioral health providers, and community-based organizations (CBOs) to create an integrated delivery system that tackles the root causes of health disparities.

Finger Lakes Performing Provider System (FLPPS) Named the Workforce Investment Organization (WIO) for the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and Western New York Regions

FLPPS will support the 1115 Waiver efforts through the implementation of the Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program. The CPT Program is designed to build up the healthcare and allied healthcare workforce by funding training and education that focus on career advancement and recruitment to create a reliable workforce pipeline to address workforce shortages throughout the state. The CPT Program will target high-demand shortage areas, reduce barriers to career advancement, and support marginalized and underrepresented communities in entering and advancing in the health workforce.
